Professor Marcel Holyoak received his BSc in Biology from Imperial College, University of London in 1989 and his PhD in Ecology in 1992. After postdoctoral work at the Centre for Population Biology, Sylwood Park, UK, and the University of Kentucky, she joined the Department of Entomology at the University of California, Davis, as a professional researcher in 1994, and was appointed to the faculty of the Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the UC Davis School in 2000, where she served as department chair from 2016 to 2019. From 2019 to the present, Professor Marcel Holyoak was appointed Associate Dean of Environmental Sciences in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Professor Marcel Holyoak's primary research interests include the impacts of climate change and habitat change on long-term population dynamics and spatially structured populations and communities, and his research work has been instrumental in the conservation of California's endangered species and in understanding the impacts of global change on biodiversity, with findings published in Nature, PNAS, Ecology Letters. Ecology, and many other journals. From 2007 to 2015, Prof Marcel Holyoak served as Editor-in-Chief of Ecology Letters, a top ecology journal, and is currently a member of the journal's editorial board. He has been a Senior Editor of Integrative Zoology since 2017 and is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Wildlife Letters in 2022.
